“ONE OF AN ARTIST’S MOST URGENT ROLES IS TO HELP TRANSFORM PEOPLE’S CONSCIOUSNESS IN THE DIRECTION OF A WORLD IN WHICH WE DO NOT HAVE TO FEAR GLOBAL SUICIDE. WE DO HAVE THE POWER TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE, IF WE ACT BEFORE IT’S TOO LATE.”

An Excerpt from Painting Peace – The Power of Art by Kazuaki Tanahashi

Artist Statement:

Creating art with a political purpose is an evolution for me, an evolution of choice and mark making to tell a story, my version of a story that is unfolding at the present. I hope this will act as a record for my family and me, and also for future families and generations. My hope that these painting illustrate the complexity and severity of the situation at hand but also show hope … this I feel, is accomplished by a color palette that is Impressionistic in nature.

“We have a very small number of people in this country [infected]. We have a big country. The biggest impact we had was when we took the 40-plus people [from a cruise ship]. … We brought them back. We immediately quarantined them. But you add that to the numbers. But if you don’t add that to the numbers, we’re talking about very small numbers in the United States.” ~ POTUS

Just reported that the United States has done more “testing” than any other nation, by far! in fact, over an eight day span, the United States now does more testing than what South Korea (which has been a very good tester) does over a eight week span. Great job! ~ POTUS

“New York City officials say that Hart Island, which for decades has been used as the final resting place for people who died unclaimed, will also be used for unclaimed coronavirus victims.” Usually, about 25 people are buried on the island each week, Goldstein said. But since coronavirus began claiming victims in the US, she said there are 25 people buried there each day.
